Every project begins with preparation, and WPCredits was no exception. Before contributing to the WordPress Photo Directory, I followed the project guide to understand the overall process and the expectations for the semester.

The first step was creating my WordPress.org profile, which would become my contributor identity throughout the project. After that, I completed the introductory learning materials and followed the recommended onboarding activities to become familiar with the WordPress ecosystem and its contribution workflow.

As I progressed through the guide, I reached the section dedicated to the WordPress Photo Directory, the contribution area I had chosen. Rather than rushing into uploading photographs, I decided to spend time understanding the requirements, submission process, and quality standards. This preparation helped me better understand what reviewers expect from contributors and what makes a photograph suitable for the directory.

At this stage, I was eager to begin contributing, but I also realized that producing high-quality submissions would require planning, patience, and attention to detail. Although I spent several weeks preparing before submitting my first photographs, that time allowed me to build a stronger foundation for the rest of the project.

Looking back, this onboarding phase was an important part of the experience because it helped me understand that contributing to an open-source community is not only about producing content, but also about following guidelines and maintaining quality standards.
