One of the first decisions I had to make in the WPCredits project was choosing the WordPress contribution team I wanted to join. Since WordPress offers many different ways to contribute, I spent some time exploring the available options before making my decision.
I decided to contribute to the WordPress Photo Directory because it combined two things that interested me: technology and photography. While I enjoy software development and studying Systems Engineering, I also appreciate photography as a creative way to capture places, landscapes, and everyday moments. The Photo Directory gave me the opportunity to combine these interests while making a meaningful contribution to the WordPress community.
Another reason I chose this project was the possibility of creating resources that anyone could freely use. Knowing that my photographs could eventually be downloaded and used by people around the world made the project feel both practical and rewarding. It also challenged me to improve my photography skills and pay closer attention to composition, lighting, image quality, and submission requirements.
I knew this project would require patience, since every photograph goes through a review process before being accepted. However, I also saw this as an opportunity to learn from feedback and better understand how open-source communities maintain quality standards.
