Preparing My First Photo Submissions

Weathered wooden post covered with pale green lichen.

After choosing the WordPress Photo Directory as my contribution area, the next step was preparing my first photo submissions. Although taking photographs is an enjoyable part of the project, I quickly learned that submitting images to the directory involves much more than simply uploading pictures.

I began reviewing the Photo Directory guidelines to better understand what reviewers expect from contributors. I learned the importance of submitting original photographs, avoiding recognizable trademarks or copyrighted content, and ensuring that each image met the quality standards required by the directory.

With these requirements in mind, I started selecting photographs from my personal collection and also planned new opportunities to capture images that would be suitable for submission. During this stage, I paid close attention to composition, lighting, focus, and overall image quality. I also made small edits when necessary to improve the photographs while preserving their natural appearance.

Rather than submitting every photo I had available, I took time to evaluate which ones had the best chance of meeting the project’s standards. This preparation gave me a better understanding of the review process and helped me feel more confident before making my first submissions.
