One of the most valuable parts of contributing to the WordPress Photo Directory was learning from the review process. While receiving approvals was exciting, I also received some rejections that helped me better understand the project’s quality standards.

One of my submissions was declined because it was considered a duplicate or a minor variation of another photograph I had already submitted. Although the images were different, they were taken from very similar angles and featured the same subject. This helped me realize that the Photo Directory values variety and encourages contributors to submit unique perspectives rather than multiple versions of the same scene.

Instead of seeing these rejections as setbacks, I viewed them as an opportunity to improve. The feedback encouraged me to be more selective when choosing which photographs to submit and to think more carefully about composition, framing, and the overall uniqueness of each image.

As I continued contributing, I applied what I learned from the moderation team. Rather than uploading every photo I liked, I focused on selecting images that offered something different and better represented the diversity expected in the directory.
